On rare occasion a collaborative sneaker becomes more than a pair of kicks and can represents the journey to get to where you are now.
Our latest collaboration with New Balance strikes this chord through the introduction of the 574 Legacy in the “Departure” and “Arrival” colorway - faithful takes on the original 574 released all the way back in 1988. Coming in a primary yellow and blue color scheme and featuring the era specific materials that made it a lifestyle hit the the first time around, our 574s are built on the principle of being ‘internationally known and locally respected’.
Over time, the 574 became known for its accessibility as well as its approachability which made it the uniform for a wide range of individuals, whether they saw the style potential or just appreciated the affordability. Fast forward to today and the 574 is arguably more popular than ever, reaching audiences across the globe and impacting any subculture and age bracket you can think of.
That is why the most impressive aspect of the sneaker in our eyes is its integrity. After all these years, the 574 and how to get it has only expanded, keeping the style inclusive. It’s stayed true to every generation's memory of getting their first pair whether it was 1989 or 2019, strengthening the 'legacy' of the iconic sneaker.
Now we might be getting nostalgic in our old age but as we think back to 2006 and how Bodega first started , we can’t help but resonate with the precedent the 574 sets. Starting in Boston and expanding to LA while tapping into overseas markets and influencing global stages, no matter how much Bodega has grown, staying true to the people and things that got us to where we are will always be the top priority because if you don't have the hometown crowd on your side, what do you have?
When it comes to balancing the weight of international acclaim with the importance of staying grounded, we couldn’t think of a better person to help kick off the 574 Legacy than the one and only Larry June.
With a unique knack for tying all of his interests into mesmerizing flows, hopping from money and cars to farmers markets and smoothies, with of course some nods to Bodega early on, the rapper who split his time between Atlanta and the Bay Area as a kid knows what it’s like to navigate hometown communities while living up to international hype. Coming off of a European tour to promote his latest album Orange Print, and headlining our pop-up in Paris, Larry conjures some retro jet setting vibes in a shoot that features vintage luggage, the notorious Acura NSX (aka the Ferrari eater), and of course a crisp pair of 574 Legacy’s to tie it all together.
