A footwear icon with over a century of history meets the genuine avant garde experimentalism of Takahiro Miyashita’s The Soloist imprint. Although Miyashita, often quite literally, is given to ripping up source material and starting again to make something new, the designer’s approach to the All Star is more akin to incorporating a modern building in a neighborhood of historical architecture.

The basic shape and canvas/vulcanized rubber construction provide a familiar starting point. Tonal colorways, slimmed down laces make for a streamlined, minimalist look, while stylized, protruding elements at the heel, midsole layering, and triangular, Soloist branded patches at the sides put Miyashita’s distinct, modernist abstraction stamp on the design.
