The GEL-Lyte III gets a tropical makeover, but if you were expecting floral shirt and sunshine postcard cliches, you may want to repack your bag. Here, tropical refers to the tropical climate.  ASICS have teamed with Singapore retailers Limited ETD and SBTG on a design inspired by the region’s monsoon season.

Getting into the whole meteorological background of air pressure systems, sea breezes, land and ocean temperatures, and so on would be a whole thing, so it will suffice to say that the defining feature of the monsoon is rain. Lots and lots of rain. To that end, The GEL-Lyte III Monsoon Patrol features an adventure and exploration inspired, utilitarian aesthetic.

The classic GEL cushioned, split tongue silhouette is outfitted in a ribbed nylon upper, complete with detachable, ‘Monsoon Patrol’ emblazoned tongue shroud. Hiking style laces emphasize the outdoors motif, while hairy suede paneling adds a touch of street readiness. The multi-environment design is tied together with the application of SBTG’s signature, Parsillia camouflage pattern.
