Menswear designer John Elliott once again teams up with Converse, this time reexploring the "Skid Grip" and making a statement on gowth and decay.
The "Skid Grip," which Converse debuted back in the 1950's was conceived to combat an athlete's constant slippage on tennis and basketball courts. Decades later, thanks to the shoe's thick, non-slip rubber soles, the silhouette would find a happy home among skate and BMX culture of the 1980s.
The shoe, which was iconic for Elliott in his youth, has put the all-but-forgotten sneaker back in the spotlight and features a theme of growth and decay. While one style mimics a bronzed patina, the other mimics a green mossy growth.
