WARHOL EMBROIDERED SNOPANTS
WARHOL EMBROIDERED SNOPANTS
-
The brainchild of designer Hardy Blechman, Maharishi has produced its award-winning pacifist military designs since 1994. The roots of Maharishi, and offshoot label MHI, lay in Blechman’s former career in the military surplus clothing trade, which inspired Blechman to take the concept of repurposing to a new level.
Maharishi continue their exploration of duality, mixing classical Eastern and contemporary Western art styles, in this case 20th Century U.S. pop art and Japanese Edo Period Ukiyo-e woodcut prints. Andy Warhol’s iconic banana is combined with a woodcut portrayal of a Kappa water demon by Utagawa Yoshikaza (1829-1899).
