Started by Emily Adams Bode in 2016, BODE is a brand that links the sentimentality and artisanship of yesteryear with modern takes on classic silhouettes. By repurposing historic materials from the past and reimagining them in a new context, BODE's pieces carry a dream-like, ethereal aura. From work jackets and pants surgically crafted from antique quilts to the excavation, celebration, and reinterpretation of Indiana's senior chord trend from the early to mid 20th century, Bode's reinterpretations are the perfect vehicle to highlight her eye for design while shining a spotlight on old textiles, arguing for both their beauty and their relevance in luxury menswear today.
These shorts are inspired by a 1950s embroidered panel. The shorts feature a faithful reproduction of the all-over embroidery of various names. Groups of friends would often sign fabric which would then be embroidered and used for pillowcases or other mementos. The silhouette is that of a traditional trouser — high rise, straight leg. The shorts silhouette is reminiscent of traditional rugby shorts worn throughout Canada with a short inseam and wide leg opening.
