It used to be that you had to own your own small business, or repeatedly “forget” to return the writing implements you were using whilst patronizing a small business, to have your own collection of branded pens or pencils.
Now you can just buy your own, and not have the poor person stuck behind a counter all day looking for a pen or pencil that walked out of the front door 15 minutes ago. Not to mention that when you’re writing with branded pens or pencils, everything just feels more important and official somehow.
