ARSENAL HUMAN RACE JERSEY
ARSENAL HUMAN RACE JERSEY
-
What differentiates soccer from other major sports is that the formation of clubs occurred long before the establishment of professional leagues. That means even the most massive, superpowered clubs can trace their origins back to the groups of enthusiastic factory workers or students who had no greater ambitions than playing this new game as much as they could. It’s why even the biggest global names inspire a deep devotion in their fans.
Pharrell’s latest project for adidas expresses this intensely personal sense of affinity, through the hands-on, individual creativity of the Human Race imprint. Team shirts made from modern, recycled materials are outfitted with iconic past designs, which have been reproduced with hand crafted graphics, highlighting the boundary erasing human touch at the core of the global game.
The on-field playing style of George Graham’s Arsenal isn’t particularly fondly remembered, but the club’s ‘bruised banana’ away kit from the 1991/92 and 1992/93 seasons provided a level of flair absent from the infamous Arsenal offside trap. The shirt is as much of a fashion icon today as it was in early ‘90s London.
