Like many before him influenced by the DIY spirit, Shawn Yates went from enthusiast to participant in the global, underground heavy metal scene with the creation of the Death Rites zine. The publication only lasted for about three years; the passion lasted for a lifetime. Featuring original artwork by UK based artist French, Death Rites deals in imagery culled from the skulls, swords, blood, and occult heavy subgenres like death metal, thrash metal, speed metal, and crossover.
