Originally released in 1977, the LD-1000's dramatically flared heel was created to support long-distance runners. However, it was recalled shortly after due to safety concerns. Phil Knight expected backlash for the recall, but instead, he received gratitude from devout runners and loyal customers. The LD-1000 was shelved and took a back seat to stardom for decades—but it wasn't forgotten.
Now you can get your hands on one of Nike's most famous innovations too. This edition of the fan favorite comes dressed in University Gold and Safety Orange hues, plus a pop of Game Royal on the insole as a subtle nod to Nike's Blue Ribbon Sports days. Real and synthetic leather merge with airy textiles and the iconic Waffle sole to recreate the old-school look you love.
