Episode #31: Ahmad Jamal Sample Mix by The Deck Brothers

 

About the Mix

At the time, we were deep in exploring original samples of many classic hip hop songs. We noticed an interesting connection for one particular artist that had a very unique sound. A wide range of producers had sampled 1970s Ahmad Jamal jazz records and coincidentally teamed up with some the dopest artists of the time to create some classic hip hop joints. Tracks sampling Ahmad Jamal's music seemingly created a deep playlist, all spawning from a few sound clips from a handful of Jamal's records. We used 4 turntables to create this mix to thread together some awesome music that was recreated as some equally awesome music and of course to pay appreciation to the brilliant jazz pianist himself.
