LONG JOHN TOP
The origins of the term long johns are murky. Some accounts trace the term back to the textile mill where the garment was invented; other accounts attribute it to 19th century boxer John L. Sullivan.
Frankly, it all seems a little complicated for such an uncomplicated garment, and besides, with a two-layer construction, we can just call them thermals instead of long johns, which makes you sound significantly less like the elderly archivist from some Stephen King-esque town in Maine.
