Jun Takahashi and Nike are no strangers to collaborative work. Takahashi has brought his signature mix of the avant garde and the functional to running footwear and gear with his Gyakusou capsule collections under the NikeLab banner for nearly ten years. However, until this past June, there had never been a full-fledged, Nike x Undercover collection.
Autumn/Winter 2019 marks the second ever Nike x Undercover collection, picking up where the first left off, and adding seasonally appropriate twists. The “Balance/Chaos” wording so often seen in Undercover’s output featured prominently in the first collection, and does so again for fall. The existence in a constant state of flux and interactions with the environment sentiments are especially apt for the varied weather conditions of fall, something reflected in the multifaceted functionality of the collection’s apparel. While a fishtail parka featuring an innovative diamond pattern that only manifests when coming into contact with moisture, a transparent watch window that precludes the need for awkward sleeve tugging, strategically placed ventilation zips, and an array of storage options, is undoubtedly the centerpiece, companions like kangaroo pocketed tees, versatile pants and lightweight hoodies comprise a total, modular experience.
The functionality of the apparel is joined by the futuristic Air Max 720 silhouette, with the tallest ever Air unit, mesh uppers and metallic detailing kitted out in a speckled/splatter graphic motif at the midsole and Undercover’s signature text branding.
