In 2020, the sight of the lowercase x linking two brands together in collaboration is completely commonplace. It's not even worth commenting on, really. Twenty years ago, it was practically unheard of outside of the most exclusive circles. In fact, the circa 2000, Europe exclusive Nike x Stussy Air Huarache LE is credited as the first Nike collaboration with a streetwear imprint ever.
When Nike and Stussy get together, it isn't just any old team up. There are twenty years of groundbreaking innovation and history behind them.
The latest apparel component of 2020’s Nike x Stussy team up goes all in on that quintessential classic sportswear fabric, nylon, albeit with a more contemporary visual approach. The neon palette and geometric designs favored by late ‘80s/early ‘90s leisure are traded for a monochrome approach, in black, red and ‘bright cactus’ yellow-green, respectively, on a range of jackets, bottoms, shorts and bucket hats featuring the Nike Swoosh and Stussy signature logo. The graphic tees are, of course, cotton rather than nylon, but you could hardly have a complete look without them.
