Vice President of Creative Projects at Nordstrom, Olivia Kim, channels the spirit of 1990s, New York City nightlife, with the ‘No Cover’ collection. While the convergence of sportswear and fashion was firmly established by the time the 90s were in full swing, performance was still the driving force behind a majority of products, meaning that models disappeared when technological upgrades came along or were just never available in women’s sizes.
The No Cover collection is comprised of classic footwear silhouettes spanning the whole of the decade: the Air Force 1, Air Jordan IV, Air Mowabb, Air Footscape and Air Max 98, along with a range of apparel basics that were absolutely essential in 90s youth fashion.
Under Kim’s creative aegis, these pieces are transformed into an embodiment of the 90s ideal, with fashion forward, rule breaking, boundary transcending, defying easy categorization represented by the collection’s vibrant colors, bold patterns and distinctive flourishes.
Remember the revolution. 1987 saw the birth of the Air Max lineage, showcasing visible Air for the first time. What began as an experiment in cushioning soon evolved into an icon on the track and the streets. Over the years, it’s been reimagined and retooled, but the heritage always remains.
