It’s common knowledge that Converse icons like the Chuck Taylor and the Jack Purcell are fixtures in a wide variety of fashion aesthetics, cultures and subcultures. What’s less common is for two of these disparate Converse sporting elements to converge, and converge so seamlessly at that. It may not be common, but it’s exactly what Converse and Neighborhood have done, as the old-school basketball court heritage of Converse meets the motorcycle centric, utilitarian sleekness and rebellious sprit of Neighborhood.
The Chuck Taylor’s traditional, canvas construction is accented with leather outfitted in a blackout colorway, with a gear shift inspired moto strap across the forefoot, a look more suited to kick starting a Suzuki Katana than a fast break.
The Jack Purcell, features a premium suede upper with modernist Neighborhood text branding at the midsole, and embroidered kanji characters at the heel, which translate to “resistance,” as Neighborhood demonstrates the allure of rebellion to Chuck Taylor’s polite cousin.
Both models feature colorful outsoles and subtle co-branding, while an accompanying apparel capsule collection applies a dualistic traditional Converse/modern Neighborhood motif to a range of basketball essentials: sweats, tees, jerseys, shorts, hoodies and hats.
