A new project from New Balance, the Tokyo Design Studio, follows this line of thinking all the way to the ultimate fusion of performance and style.
As a longtime hotbed of New Balance fandom, the working relationship between New Balance and Japan is a well-established one. The Tokyo Design Studio takes this mutual admiration to a new level. Developed and designed in Japan, technological innovation and a progressive design sensibility are interpreted through the distinctly Japanese lenses of authentic history, painstaking craftsmanship and exacting quality.
Performance starts at the feet, but it doesn’t end there. The first collaborative offering from the New Balance Tokyo Design Studio pushes the crafted, functional style ethos into overdrive. Masters of everyday performance wear geared towards the unique demands of urban life, Nanamica, are enlisted to produce a capsule collection of footwear and apparel that offers a multifaceted functionality experience.
The visible technology of the RC_1 silhouette is equipped with Gore-Tex, but outfitted in tonal, pigskin suede, for a shoe that is comfortable in all conditions of the natural and stylistic variety. A matching Cruiser Jacket is smart-casual, in more ways than one, as the versatile, refined simplicity of a snap-closure, button-flap short jacket, offers five-pocket functionality and Gore-Tex water repellency. Even the basic, athletic essentials, the logo adorned French terry crew neck sweatshirt and jersey cotton t-shirt, offer a performance component, with the moisture wicking breathability of Coolmax.
