As the color of happiness and good fortune in Chinese culture, the color red is, naturally, the predominant motif of celebratory occasions like the New Year holiday. In recent years, the lunar New Year has ushered in special release, red dominated editions of popular sneakers, almost as readily as it has ushered in the year of the appropriate zodiac animal.

A new, collaborative effort between Adidas and renowned chef and media personality Eddie Huang joins the festivities with a celebratory edition of the original Ultra Boost silhouette. A Primeknit 1.0 upper with leather support overlays and a suede tongue are outfitted in traditional red, with gold, prosperity bringing accents in the form of a panda logo, the source of the shoe’s Year of the Panda moniker, on the tongue and the Chinese character for ‘wealth’ at the heel counter.
