x 24 Kilates GRID SD
The word “premium” is thrown around a lot in the world of sneakers and fashion, so its meaning has become somewhat diluted and subjective. That being said, when a shoe is crafted with luxe materials as a conceptual tribute to 16th century, European nautical history, that shoe has more than earned the title of premium.
That happens to be exactly what Barcelona boutique 24 Kilates have achieved with their most recent collaborative effort. Their take on Saucony’s classic Grid SD runner is a living tribute to the globe circumnavigating expedition led by Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan. Dubbed La Victoria, after Magellan’s 85 ton carrack ship, the Grid SD features rich burnished brown leather adorned with custom cross shaped perforations, in contrasting light and dark tones, emulates the timber construction of the era’s ocean faring ships. The rich leather carries over into the interior lining, with an application of soft, thin, deep red leather. A white ripstop tongue exterior references the ship’s sails, while dark navy accents provide a deep, open sea quality. Details like brass lace hooks and grommets, gold La Victoria text at the heel, and custom packaging emblazoned with a Santiago Cross put the finishing touches on a exquisite package.
