As you may have heard over the past couple of years, chunky is back. A debuting silhouette from Nike, the Zoom X Vista Grind may fit the chunky bill, physically, but don’t expect any retro styling. A certain amount of physical bulk is the main tie that the ultra-modern design of the Zoom X Vista Grind has to its predecessors.
The cornerstone of any chunky design is the cushioning technology that requires all that housing space. Here, the Zoom X foam that gives the Zoom X Vista Grind its name, features prominently. The vibrant, green material is recycled from Nike Zoom Fly running shoes is partially revealed with stylized cut out segments of the shoe’s appropriately substantial midsole, and fully revealed on the underside with a translucent sole unit.
The futuristic motif is matched by the upper design, which is constructed from translucent NextSkin, with an outline swoosh logo that dips into the midsole. A TPU heel clip and eyestay provide a subtle, but appreciated retro running touch to round out the design.
