Much like the popular music sounds of The Safety Dance or Down Under, 1980s basketball shoe design is readily identifiable with its specific era. It’s not a style that is near the top of a lot lists when it comes to candidates for minimalist reinterpretation. Which is exactly what makes the Nike Vandalised LX such a unique design.
A tonal black take on the classic Vandal shape is scaled back to a prototype like series of layered individual pieces secured by minimal, visible stitching. The signature multicolored strap that stood out on the original is dispensed with entirely, as are standard laces. A single toggle cord closure, rendered in a contrasting sky blue shade, serves as the only securing mechanism.
