Longtime devotees may remember that the collaborative relationship between adidas and Pharrell Williams was launched with the Supercolor collection, which offered the iconic Superstar in 50 different monochromatic shades, encompassing the ROYGBIV spectrum. For their latest project, Pharrell and adidas have inverted the formula. This time around an array of silhouettes are offered in a single colorway.
From the expression of alternative music-based angst to presenting the latest world changing gadget or app to assembled investors, to tactical concealment, the utilization of an all-black palette excels in a wide variety of contexts. The 19 piece Triple Black collection is no exception, as the visual signatures of Pharrell's adidas output, Hu branding, anatomical details, inspirational slogans, are all rendered in triple black.
Footwear silhouettes ranging from three stripes classics to contemporary performance, along with an accompanying selection of apparel pieces, are completely blacked out in the service of eliminating excess distraction, and centering focus on the design details that make each individual model unique. This blank canvas, in turn allows the wearer to write their own, unique, individual perspective.
The concept may seem simple, but the end result means that preconceived notions are thrown out, and anything is made possible.
