Last year, Nike applied a mix of heritage influences and boundary pushing technological innovations to the Air Max 270. The result was a streamlined update of these old-school building blocks with a technological landmark centerpiece, the largest visible air heel bag that Nike had ever produced.
In 2019, the evolution continues unabated, as the Air Max 720 makes its long awaited debut, after being hinted at for several months. A retro-future aesthetic sees a mesh upper offset by metallic accent rung nylon paneling at the sides and heel and minimalist swoosh branding, set atop a new landmark in Air cushioning, the 720 Air unit. Nike’s new, tallest ever Air cushioning unit, exceeding its closest past counterpart by 6mm, provides 360 degrees of cushioning coverage on longitudinal and latitudinal planes.
After debuting with Aurora Borealis inspired colorways, a new slate of Air Max 720 releases continue the natural phenomenon motif. The 'Pink Sea' sports a pink and blue gradient inspired by the vibrant oceanic/maritime contrasts seen in coral reefs and the stunning pink lakes of Western Australia.
