The brainchild of designer Hardy Blechman, Maharishi has produced its award winning pacifist military designs since 1994. The roots of Maharishi, and offshoot label MHI, lay in Blechman’s former career in the military surplus clothing trade, which inspired Blechman to take the concept of repurposing to a new level.
Recycled military surplus has always been a permanent feature of maharishi's mainline collection, including vintage surplus items that are recut and updated with accessory and cord systems. These processes are carried out in India, where the clothing is smudged with herbal incense, blessed, and washed in saffron water to symbolically cleanse it of its military associations.
Cargo straps are designed to be tied around the leg to secure cargo within the pockets. The straps can be hidden within the pocket or left loose as pictured, flying in the wind.
