TH OG CLASSIC SLIP-ON LX (BROOKS)
Birmingham, England based bicycling outfitters Brooks can trace their roots back to 1866, when founder John Boultbee Brooks established J.B. Brooks & Co., whose primary business was the manufacsture of leather goods for horse riding. Twelve years later, after his beloved horse passed away, Mr. Brooks tried riding a bicycle for the first time, and found the experience so uncomfortable that he began working on a new design for bicycle saddles. In 1882, the first patent for a Brooks saddle was filed, and in 1888, the first Brooks product catalogs came off the presses.
Just to clarify how long Brooks have been in the bicycle business, when Brooks started out, the reigning monarch was Queen Victoria, and the standard bicycle design was the Penny Farthing, more commonly known today as the old-timey bicycle with the hilariously large front wheel.
Even as cycling became sportier, and in the case of developments like mountain biking and BMX, downright adventurous, placing ever greater demands on the functionality of cycling equipment, Brooks commitment to elegant craftsmanship never wavered.
This historical pedigree makes Brooks an ideal collaborative partner for Vans Vault and designer Taka Hayashi. With both Vans and Brooks celebrating milestone anniversaries this year, 50 years for Vans and 150 for Brooks, a collaborative release marks the perfect celebration.
The classic design, premium materials, and quality construction that distinguishes the two brands is applied, along with Taka Hayashi’s eye for impeccable detailing and distinctive style, to the OG Sk8-Hi LX and the Classic Slip On, as well as a range of bicycle accessories.
