The shoe was originally named for French tennis pro Robert Haillet, but his retirement left an endorsement vacancy. The shoe was already a success, and it wasn’t going anywhere any time soon, so Adidas secured the name of the current number one ranked player, Stan Smith, and the rest is history.
The Stan Smith has been produced in countless color and material variations, and this version employs darker green accents and a gold foil nameplate.
