It’s easy to take the austere chic of grey for granted, but New Balance had to buck contemporary trends and conventional wisdom to pioneer the look. Released during a time of ever growing ostentation in footwear design, New Balance emphasized a timeless look and top of the line performance technology.
After completing its two-decade journey back onto the feet of an eager public, the legendary New Balance 997 is the latest silhouette to receive the “Grey Day” treatment. With the 997 already, to say the least, well known for being grey, New Balance have put an extra emphasis on the details of the original 997, and its contemporary update counterpart, the 997S.
The made in the USA status of the 997, a longtime point of pride for New Balance, is placed front and center on the original, as it relocates from the tongue to replace the iconic ‘N’ branding. The classic look of the 997 makes its way over to streamlined silhouette, featuring revealed ENCAP technology, of the 997S. It’s a comprehensive reimagining of the familiar, and it still doesn’t need any colors besides grey to do it.
If a size is not listed, it is sold out.
