In the mid-1990s, visible technology, the more the better, was still very much the driving force behind performance footwear design, putting Adidas way ahead of the curve when they bucked this trend with the introduction of the ‘Feet You Wear’ range of product back in 1996. A forerunner of the natural running movement that would become mainstream in subsequent years, the concept behind Feet You Wear was simple; mimicking the natural curves of the foot, by utilizing a wider, lower, curved base, instead of using standard, squared off soles would reduce the risk of instability caused injuries.

Despite the simplified approach to performance that Feet You Wear represented, a bold, distinctive motif of waves and rounded off shapes kept the new range at the cutting edge of 90s design.

The latest from Adidas Consortium reaches back into 1997 and pulls out a Feet You Wear classic, the Salvation runner. Reborn as the FYW-S97, the reimagined silhouette is a mixture of streamlined updates and OG details, as a slimmed down take on the original upper features a performance mesh base with leather overlays, atop the signature curved midsole.
