x Black Eye Patch DAYTONA DMX II
Any mention of Tokyo’s BlackEyePatch brand is going to include some variation of mysterious or enigmatic eventually. Fair enough, seeing as the identity of their designers is kept under wraps, and the brand’s self identification doesn’t go much deeper than the extremely general “Tokyo.” Another way to look at it is that without a “name,” this is a brand that lives and dies entirely on their creative output.
A collaborative take on Reebok’s Daytona DMX II sees BlackEyePatch take the shoe’s aesthetic from standard athletic with a futuristic edge to the dazzling heights of full-on millennial fashion. A black base layer is topped with white mesh, standard in the Daytona DMX design, but the leather overlays that wrap around the shoe are rendered in gleaming metallic silver, with debossed branding at the lateral midfoot, and kanji text at the heels. Bright blue detailing introduces a subtle color pop. It’s the closest you’ll ever come again to having a flip phone with a decorative cell phone charm.
