During the 1954 World Cup, Adi Dassler revolutionized soccer footwear with the removable stud cleats that provided the West German team with sure footing on a muddy surface. So it’s no surprise that the brand with the three stripes would be responsible for crafting the platonic ideal of a soccer cleat, the Copa Mundial. Created in 1979 ahead of the 1982 World Cup in Spain, the black and white, kangaroo leather upper with fold over tongue would be immortalized in many of that tournament’s most iconic moments. The famous photo of Gerry Armstrong firing past Luis Arconada, which gave Northern Ireland a shocking upset over the host country, sees both players sporting Copa Mundial boots, and that’s just one of many. The shoe is a true classic, and instantly recognizable.

To help celebrate the 70th anniversary of adidas, the ultimate soccer shoe gets a modern, casual makeover. The rich, kangaroo leather upper of the iconic Copa Mundial makes way for lightweight, engineered Primemesh, while the cleats are swapped out for a classic, gum rubber sole that’s not only universally stylish, but more than ready for an indoor kickaround.
