For such a basic and iconic shoe, the Puma Clyde/Suede/State has been the subject of some historical confusion regarding its name. The Suede is the shoe’s original moniker. The import models sent to Europe were given the state designation. The ‘Clyde’ comes in thanks to 1970s NBA legend Walt ‘Clyde’ Frazier. The basic Suede was customized to Frazier’s specifications, his signature was affixed to the side of the shoe, and the Clyde was born.

The confusion around this shoe’s name is somewhat ironic, given that there was no mistaking Clyde on or off the court. Frazier’s sense of style set him apart even by the standards of the 1970s. His penchant for wearing wide brimmed hats is what earned him the nickname Clyde, after Bonnie and Clyde, in the first place.

For the first time in five years, Puma is bringing the Clyde back to store shelves.

Available in black/white and white/black colorways, the Home and Away Clyde combines the timeless, athletic style of the hardwood with Walt Frazier’s impeccable fashion sense. The old-school looks are presented here in premium materials, with Italian construction to commemorate this legend’s return.
