Reebok’s best known work tends to focus on specific areas. The Freestyle model was perfectly timed to coincide with America’s late 80s, aerobics love affair, the pumps of the 1990s combined new technology and a visual hook to create a legitimate craze, and the Reebok classic is a perennial leisurewear mainstay.

Away from the trends, what established Reebok in the world of athletics was their racing silhouettes. The Aztec, a 1979 runner that has been brought out of the vault, is a prime example of this Reebok specialty.

The simple suede/nylon upper and dual density midsole may be archaic, as far as running technology is concerned, but the streamlined shape and subdued sense of style are what took shoes like the Aztec off of the tracks and roads and into leisurewear in the first place. They still look as good as ever.
