A nice, round number anniversary always makes for an opportune time to reintroduce a shoe. Twenty years on from the end of the millennium, fans of boundary pushing, futuristic design can rejoice.
As the first ever model to feature Air cushioning, the Air Tailwind will always be associated with innovation and a sense of into the unknown adventurism. The Air Max Tailwind IV, a 1999 entrant in the Tailwind series channeled this spirit through a design sensibility fully prepared to usher in the year 2000.
An anniversary edition of the assertive silhouette features a leather/synthetic upper, complimented by a ribbed side panel design and segmented visible air units similar to those found on the ultra-aggressive design of the Air Max Plus. A subdued palette of tan tones and contrasting bronze and slate trim allow the subtle centerpiece of the design, heel text marking the 1999 origin year of the original shoe in Roman numerals, along with the code for the sole's signature rubber compound, BRS1000.
