AIR MAX PLUS III
When the Air Max Plus III debuted around the turn of the millennium, it was assigned the unenviable task of following up on the original Air Max Plus. Not only was the 1998 Air Max Plus a massive cult favorite, the design was so striking and aggressive that even a single step forward would pretty much have to touch down in uncharted territory. That uncharted territory was the Air Max Plus III.
The shoe's dominant feature is a prominent, streak emblazoned TPU heel clip, placed above the outsized heel visible Air unit. The streaks serve as the centerpiece of the Air Max Plus design, as they are replicated on the shoe's upper, replacing the wavy, plastic overlay stripes of the original Air Max Plus.
Like its predecessor, the Air Max Plus III became an early streetwear essential, especially in certain, influential, London based, electronic music subcultures, thanks to a bold, aggressively contemporary style, versatile enough to pair with street fashion staples or luxury statement pieces.
