The state of the world over the past year-plus has upended everything from mundane daily routines to the very conceptions of what ‘normal’ looks like. Engineered Garments have not been exempted from this disruption, as some of their defining features: meticulous tailoring and tactical inspired functionality for the on-the-go world traveler, have been hamstrung by the necessity of staying home.

For their Spring/Summer 2021 collection, Daiki Suzuki has faced this challenged head-on, and responded with decontracte. The one-to-one translation is ‘relaxed’ or ‘leisurely,’ but the broader implications also include ‘casual’ and ‘informal,’ suggesting an ease of spirit to match the unhurried pace of action.

The utilitarian function and fastidious craft that stand behind the ‘Engineered’ in Engineered Garments have been applied to looser, relaxed silhouettes, featuring a globetrotting array of patterns (florals, madras plaid, Breton stripes) and materials.

The Bedford is a classic item with a peak lapel and 4 patch pocket design and tough workwear details. Reinforcing cloth sewn on the back of the shoulders and pockets that can be used, and those stitches give a rugged impression. The high count twill is a soft material but holds its structure well.
