AIR SKYLON II
One of the major design breakthroughs of the 90s was gradient printing. Anyone who remembers the regrettable alternate NHL uniforms that were debuted in the middle of the decade probably just experienced an involuntary shudder, but those excesses were clearly an abuse of the form. For gradient done right, adjust your sights to the early 1990s, and get a visual fix on the Air Skylon II.
The sleek lines, phylon foam midsole and a tonal white, leather/mesh upper offer a deceptively simple impression of this cult favorite, but the multicolored, gradient side panel and hand scrawled style typeface at the heel reveal a bold, contemporary outlook that carries over into the Skylon’s technological components. Not just a pretty face, the Air Sklyon was the first Nike model to incorporate both forefoot and heel air units.
