x SOCIAL STATUS POD 3.1
Adidas Consortium, together with the socially conscious sneaker purveyors at Social Status (Pitt/ATL/Houston/NC), have joined forces for a special release of the POD 3.1.
Initially developed in 1994, the POD (or Point of Deflection) system is a component inspired design where each of the shoe's distinctive parts have their own unique purpose. The lightweight EVA rubber forefoot provides a stiff and supportive stride, while the Boost heel piece provides all-day comfort. The two pieces are then connected by a TPU midfoot plate which allows the sections to move independently, adjusting the cushioning as needed.
In recent times, the POD system has been updated (v. 3.1) to include a thin, flexible knit upper reinforced for support and built using one-piece construction. Underneath, another single thin layer of fabric is used to provide structure to the shoe and stretches similarly to the upper to maintain a consistent feel. The tongue is then cut apart from the main upper and is reinforced by a nylon strap around the eyelets to give them extra hold with the laces.
With as much attention to style as form, the POD 3.1 silhouette is the perfect hybrid of lifestyle and performance. And thanks to a little help from their friends at Social Status sneaker boutiques, the shoe's elevated sense of style reaches new and enticing heights. With a design developed through a partnership between @adidasoriginals and Adidas Consortium Communitas program, students based in ATL created helped create the fresh new look with the broad spectrum of colors highlighting the diversity and essence of youthful creativity.
