$120.00

Released back in 1972, the iconic Cortez will forever be known as the shoe that started it all. The first release by an unknown startup footwear company called “Nike,” the running shoe would provide the blueprint and signify the humble beginnings to what is now one of the biggest, most recognizable companies of all time.

Founded by University of Oregon track coach Bill Bowerman and former student-athlete Phil Knight, the company name “Nike” still hadn’t been settled on until after the design of the Cortez was completed. As mentioned in his memoir, “Shoedog,” Phil Knight reveals that it was just one of three names that made the cut, alongside “Peregrine Falcon,” and his choice, “Dimension Six.”

Say what you will about the decision, but can you imagine a “Peregrine Falcon 180 Air?” Actually, come to think of it, so can we.

Relive the past as it almost came to be with three versions of the same Cortez—the one that made the cut—and the two that until now, hadn’t seen the light of day.

Shoe Dog Pack' highlights the company's past with Nike’s first running shoe released, the Cortez. Dimension Six was Phil Knight’s name of choice, and this rendition mirrors the original with a flipped heel tab, exposed foam tongue and single layer of premium leather.
