A new, Lunar New Year capsule from Vans celebrates the Year of the Rat in style. Internationally renowned, Beijing/Los Angeles based visual artist Zhao Zhao has been enlisted to interpret the qualities of the Zodiac rat, cunning, intelligence, adaptability, into the footwear realm. The result is a celebration of the symbolic rat through a celebration of the actual rat.
Each piece in the Year of the Rat collection is inspired by the rat's journey through the often hostile urban landscape, a journey that takes place in urban landscapes all over the globe, without fail, every single day.
The Year of the Rat Old-Skool opts for a tonal grey, suede upper, with pink waffle sole, in a nod to the physical form of the common rat. Distinctive accenting details, a gradient patch design at the heel, and a layered application of the Off the Wall logo, are also tied back to our rodent friends; the patch is meant to evoke the entrance to a rat friendly tunnel, while the layered logo is a stylized representation of a rat's tail.
