The GEL-Lyte III isn't just an ASICS icon, it's a stands out as a landmark shoe in the history of sneakers. A departure from the reliable but conservative image that ASICS shoes had at the time, the GEL-Lyte III sought to capture the imagination of a growing sneaker audience constantly on the lookout for the next thrill. The unique split tongue, designed to facilitate comfort by eliminating the shifting during motion that occurs with a standard tongue, and allowing for hands free putting on and taking off, was considered a rule breaking, radical concept.

In addition to being a hit with the public upon its release, the GEL-Lyte III would accumulate more cultural cache, as the canvas for a number of influential collaborative projects during the mid 2000s period when special release shoes were still off the radar of the mainstream public. 

A collaborative effort with Spanish retailer SVD, the iconic '90s silhouette is constructed with a host of sustainable materials, including an organic cotton textile upper, eco-leather for the Tiger Stripe logo and heel, and recycled foam in the split tongue. The earthy color palette is rounded out with insoles made from recycled plastic bottles, jute fiber laces, and eco-friendly packaging.
