The GEL-Lyte III is an ASICS icon, standing out as a landmark shoe in the history of sneakers. A departure from the reliable but conservative image that ASICS shoes had at the time, the GEL-Lyte III sought to capture the imagination of a growing sneaker audience constantly on the lookout for the next thrill. The unique split tongue, designed to facilitate comfort by eliminating the shifting during motion that occurs with a standard tongue, and allowing for hands free putting on and taking off, was considered a rule breaking, radical concept.

In their collaboration with Sneaker Politics, the brands set out to honor all service members - an homage motivated by Sneaker Politics founder Derek Curry's time in the U.S. Army, which included a 9 month deployment in Iraq. Owing much of his success to his military career, the sneaker's nickname 'Always Ready' is taken from his unit's motto "Toujours Prêt", the French translation of the phrase.

Complete with multiple references to military uniforms including an army green canvas upper, velcro patches, and American flag accents peeking through the toe box.
