Any innovation, no matter how radical at the time of its introduction, eventually becomes familiar, and is absorbed into the every day routine. Once people are used to something, it can be easy to forget just how extraordinary it really is.
Two decades' worth of design evolution in running shoes has made concepts like free running, natural motion and minimalism mainstream, but in 1996, the idea of less is more was practically design heresy. That's when Tobie Hatfield, driven to distraction by a poor fitting, new running shoe, began to think of ways to dispense with the standard construction methods.
In the year 2000, the end product of this tinkering would reveal itself as the legendary Presto. Everything, from the t-shirt sizing to the striking colorways burst with the turn of the millennium spirit of newness, but the feeling a of flexible, responsive shoe would set a new standard. The user generated data driven design and futuristic looks of the new React sole continues this legacy.
The hybrid React Presto outfits the basic shape of the original Presto with a React sole, which heightens the overall silhouette, while the external lacing structure is tweaked to mimic the wavy React design.
