Asics and Bangkok sneaker boutique Carnival team up for a collaborative take on the Gel-DS Trainer. The Gel-DS Trainer was introduced as lightweight, racing shoe for serious runners who logged heavy training miles as a matter of routine. While running is certainly a worthwhile physical pursuit, Carnival's take on the Gel-DS Trainer is inspired by a discipline where terms like foot strike and impact have a more intense meaning, Thailand's national combat sport, Muay Thai.
The mesh and suede with leather overlays upper construction features a tonal white colorway with asymmetrical accenting in red, blue and gold, colors drawn from traditional Muay Thai garb. The use of classic white provides an almost deceptively simple base, allowing the bold, athletic accent colors to land with the impact of the knee strike that Cris Cyborg knocked out Tonya Evinger with at UFC 14. For a finishing touch, 'Muay Thai' is written across the heels in Thai script.
