In 1898, Saucony began its operations along the banks of the Saucony river, 75 miles away from where Lapstone & Hammer was founded in Philadelphia. For the first time, these two brands with Pennsylvania roots have teamed up to create the Lapstone & Hammer + Saucony Courageous Moc “Two Rivers.” Inspired by the origins of Saucony’s name (derived from the Native American Lenape word "saconk," which translates to "where two rivers run together"), this special project connects Lapstone and Saucony like two rivers running together, to form a more dynamic force.
For the “Two Rivers” project, Lapstone has transformed one of Saucony’s heritage running silhouettes, the Courageous, into a brand new model: the Courageous Moc. The addition of a whip-stitched moc toe stitched by hand is the centerpiece of the design. High-level details extend throughout the rest of the model’s construction.
The Courageous Moc “Two Rivers” in Black Sand consists of a mix of premium silkee and mammoth black suedes, goat and Horween leathers, purple and olive embroidered accents, calfskin leather lining, a sherpa-lined tongue, and goat and veg-tan leather trim on top of a cork and EVA co-molded midsole with shark tooth ripple gum rubber outsole. Each pair comes with two lace options – rawhide leather and tonal flat waxed cotton – as well as both black and purple lace toggles.
