With 200 singles titles, including Grand Slams as both an amateur and professional, to his name, Rod Laver can make a claim to the mantle of greatest tennis player of all time that holds up today. With a playing style that analysists described as ‘technically faultless,’ Laver excelled on every court surface. This smooth versatility was reflected in a signature adidas shoe, which incidentally, makes a strong greatest of all-time case of its own.

The original Rod Laver featured nylon mesh uppers with a rounded leather toebox. Over time, the design evolved to its most well-known and beloved form, which incorporated polyurethane midsoles and a suede mudguard.

After celebrating the Rod Laver's return with a quartet of luxurious, textured leather models, adidas Consortium opts to show off the stylistic versatility inherent in the Rod Laver's elegantly simple design. A recycled textile upper in grey with a subtle, multicolored melange effect is accented with leather eyestays, a suede mudguard and heel tab, terrycloth lining, and bronze trefoil and signature tongue label branding.
